Invisalign In Durham, NC

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an alternative to traditional braces. It uses a series of clear plastic aligners to correct your child’s smile, rather than metal brackets, braces, and elastic bands. By wearing these aligners regularly and swapping through a series of different aligners, your child can correct their smile and bite, improving both their appearance and their oral health. If you're in Durham, Morrisville, or Chapel Hill, contact Smile First Dentist now to schedule a consultation and see if Invisalign is right for your child.

The Benefits Of Invisalign

First, Invisalign is invisible and doesn’t affect speech, so your child won’t feel self-conscious about their appearance. It can also be removed to eat and drink, to brush and floss, and to play sports, which makes it more convenient than braces.

Invisalign also has a shorter treatment time than braces overall, in most cases, and requires fewer appointments at Smile First Dentistry, making it more convenient for both you and your child.

Finally, Invisalign is a lot more comfortable than braces. There are no metal components to poke and irritate your child’s tongue, lips, or cheeks, and Invisalign tends to shift teeth more gradually than braces, so they will experience less discomfort overall.

For all of these reasons and more, Invisalign is becoming a popular choice for pre-teens and teens in the Durham area who need to straighten their teeth.

The Invisalign Treatment Process

The basic Invisalign treatment process is simple to understand, though your child’s treatment may vary somewhat depending on their unique orthodontic needs.

Initial Consultation

First, Dr. Jenny will perform a comprehensive oral exam to determine whether or not your child is a good candidate for Invisalign. If she approves your child, she will begin developing their treatment plan right away.

Getting Their Aligners

Your child’s first sets of aligners will arrive at our office in a few weeks. You’ll come back to pick them up. Then, your child will follow Dr. Jenny's instructions, usually wearing each set of aligners for 2 weeks, for at least 20-22 hours per day.

Regular Checkups

Your child will come back to our office every 4-6 weeks for a quick checkup with Dr. Jenny, and to get their next sets of aligners. This process will be repeated until their treatment is complete.

Is My Child A Good Candidate For Invisalign?

This depends on how serious their orthodontic issues are. Invisalign is a versatile treatment, but is best suited for minor-to-moderate problems with teeth and bite alignment. If your child has very severe orthodontic problems, they may need to get treatment with traditional braces. Braces are more versatile and can be paired with other orthodontic treatments to resolve serious oral development issues.

The best way to find out if your child is a good candidate for Invisalign is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Jenny at Smile First Dentist in Durham.
